卡索(约翰尼·德普 Johnny Depp 饰)着迷于收藏离奇古怪的珍稀书籍。这种才华令富翁巴尔坎（弗兰克·兰格拉 Frank Langella 饰）大为赏识。他派给卡索一个艰巨的任务——寻找一本叫《第九道门》的古书，并鉴定他手中那本的真假。这本书在世界上仅存3本，剩下的两本，分别流落到了葡萄牙和法国。 传说，只要通读此书，就可以召唤魔鬼的到来。卡索开始了曲折而又魔幻的寻找历程。他探访了书的原主人之妻、古籍修缮专家、遇上绿眼珠的神秘女人，期间他朋友的暴毙竟然跟书里的插图如出一辙，命案还在连连上演。原来，书中所带的咒语，恐怕会使得拥有者无一幸免。而如果三本书合在了一起，就会迎来邪恶的撒旦。而到底最终魔鬼的脸有没有出现？。某天晚上，为了撮合治虫（圆谷健太 饰）和裕子（後藤ユウミ 饰），直树（上田祐挥 饰）、里美（国武绫 饰）、隆（泽村大辅 饰）、香织（柴田千紘 饰）、裕太（松泽匠 饰）等时尚男女在直树的哥哥浩二（新仓健太 饰）及其女友智子（若井尚子 饰）的家中举行了一个派对。四个小时后，派对在尴尬的气氛中结束，众人各回各家，但是复杂的情感漩涡却已将他们深深卷入其中。治虫将裕子带回家中，两人笨拙地走到了一起。浩二不满智子冷落了直树的女友里美，为此大发脾气。派对中直树专心玩游戏，倍感落寞的里美怀疑男友不再专情于自己。隆向香织表白，竟意外得到肯定答复。 欢声笑语，口是心非，男男女女万事皆备，除了真情……。A romantic and funny love story with a tragic end. In Paris a young Hungarian artist (Monpti) and a girl (Anne-Claire) meet and fall in love. But just when she is prepared to give herself to him she finds a pair of lady's pants in his room. He is perfectly innocent but the reason why the pants are there is as humouristic as incredible. So when he tells the truth she gets very angry though she was prepared to "forgive" his "side step". Another pattern is much more serious. Anne-Claire fears that Monpti would have no interest in her if she told that she is a nobody. So she builds up a story of being a rich girl with a private chauffeur. She even takes Monpti to a family church funeral and points out all her relatives, even telling which ones are not on speaking terms. When he finally exposes her lies a violent explosion results. She runs away in despair and is overrun by a car. At the hospital their love returns. But she will die after a few days. - In the background of many scenes we have seen the couple who overrun Anne-Claire, and their shallow emotions were recurrently contrasted with the genuine love of the young couple.。
