SYNOPSIS Urgently called, the police inspector has arrived in a hotel, and didn't find any crime, but noticed some strangenesses occurring there. He has decided to leave, but a snow avalanche is crushed in the mountains, making it impossible for him to leave. Soon, inspector has found a body of a dead lodger. (Strugatsky Brothers website) NOTES This is a crime / mystery thriller with surreal and psychedelic science fiction overtones based on a book Inspector Glebsky's Puzzle by the Strugatsky brothers. The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。故事开始于1960年代末。高秀兰（郝岩 饰）的丈夫撒手归天，留给她一女三男四个孩子，她的日子过得十分艰难。就在这时，有人给她介绍了锅炉工老关头（李幼斌 饰），秀兰感觉又有了依靠。俩人结婚后，孩子们感觉母亲把感情转移到了继父身上，于是产生了对立。面对这群难以管教的孩子，老关头几次产生离去的念头，但由于舍不得放弃心爱的秀兰，想想也就算了，时光荏冉，秀兰至到死也没能听到孩子们叫老关头一声爸爸，她带着遗憾离开了这个世界。秀兰故去不久，老关头也离世了，孩子们在整理其遗物时发现，在一个旧箱子里，盛满了自他进入这个家庭以来的月份牌，当看到上面记录的种种内容，儿女们泪流满面......。
