清末民初，世道离乱。话说一处名唤百花岭的所在，乃是远近闻名的炼香之所，其中尤以清溪宫家和玉泉香家是为其中翘楚。有道是同行是冤家，宫香二门长久以来也颇多不合。宫家少爷宫少华（何晟铭 饰）与浣纱苏家的小姐苏雨宁（叶璇 饰）自幼青梅竹马，订下婚约。如今二八佳人雨宁不仅清秀美丽，更凭借天赋和独门绝学成为百花岭公认的第一调香师。 无奈世事无常，雨宁因缘际会结识香家少爷香浩宇（刘恺威 饰），二人一见钟情，虽结为夫妇，夫妇二人琴瑟合璧，最终调制出了举世无双的香水“国色天香”。谁知宫少华衔恨在心，发誓夺回自己的女人，一场乱世悲剧不可避免地上演了……。The subtitle of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet’s first feature, from 1965, “Only Violence Helps Where Violence Reigns,” suggests the fierce political program evoked by their rigorous aesthetic. The pretext of the film, set in Cologne, is Heinrich Böll’s novel “Billiards at Half Past Nine,” which they strip down to a handful of stark events and film with a confrontational angularity akin to Bartók’s music that adorns the soundtrack. The subtlest of cues accompany the story’s complex flashbacks. The middle-aged Robert Fähmel tells a young hotel bellhop of persecutions under the Third Reich| his elderly father, Heinrich, an architect famed for a local abbey, recalls the militarism of the First World War, when his wife, Johanna, incurred trouble for insulting the Kaiser. A third-generation Fähmel is considering architecture, just as the exiled brother of Robert’s late wife, returns, only to be met by their former torturer, now a West German official taking part in a celebratory parade of war veterans. Straub and Huillet make the layers of history live in the present tense, which they judge severely.
