故事发生在公元前二千三百年左右，三皇五帝之一的舜帝降生于世，生于姚墟。舜帝面貌本就异于凡人，两眼是双瞳仁，故而其母为其取名重华。重华的母亲握登常年卧病在床，在诞生下重华后，本就对重华母亲漠不关心的姚父，更是对重华母子越发的冷漠，并一直认为重华是一个不祥的“四瞳怪”……。When he learns his days are numbered old count Hervé de Kéraudren decides to hide in a secret alcove and to die there, just to annoy his heirs. As a result of his body not being found the latter will have to wait for five years until they can inherit the count's money. Very upsetting indeed, all the more as they are required to keep up the Kéraudren estate in the meantime. To collect money, nephews and nieces organize a Son et Lumière show at the manor while busily looking for the missing corpse. But, unexpectedly, they get killed in turns. Murders or accidents? Jean-Marie, his fiancée Micheline and his cousin Edwige investigate and finally succeed in exposing the culprit.
