故事发生在二十世纪三十年代的民国，山西一个偏远的小山村。村里的保长为了趋炎附势，把自己的女儿嫁给了县长的儿子，并从女儿口中辗转得知了一条旱涝保收的消息：在村里建个“李忆莲祠堂”，就可以获得县里拨发的巨额救济粮和银元。虽然不太明白县里的意思，但是贪财的保长立马勾搭了村里的族长，开始筹谋这桩买卖。。展现一个时代的变迁，不仅需要炫目的超级工程，还需如同你我的普罗大众的个体感受。《落脚城市》就是将时代之下的个体体感记录下，为这个时代注上更有温度、更触动人心、更准确的注脚。。The title of Miguel Gomes' début film is derived from the expression: 'Until the age of thirty, you have the face that God gave you, after that you have the face you deserve.'
